Illustrated maps and informational graphics chart rapidly changing global themes such as population trends, urbanization, health and longevity, human migration, climate change, communications, and the world economy. The core of any atlas is the reference mapping section and the 10th Edition boasts the largest and most comprehensive collection of political maps ever published by National Geographic. Completely updated and expanded by sixteen pages, this section features new maps of Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales, three detailed regional maps of Australia, expanded coverage of Africa, and a map of the strategically important area around the Mediterranean Sea, encompassing North Africa and Southern Europe. In addition, special sections are dedicated to the Oceans, Space, and Flags and Facts. These are followed by an expanded index, with more than 150,000 place names. The 10th Edition's high-quality construction and large format make it a centerpiece to gather around as well as the perfect reference tool for understanding how the present and past continually collide in today's fast-paced world.

Amazing amount of information In addition to very good and up-to-date maps, this atlas contains all sorts of extra information on populations, agriculture, climates, etc. If I am curious about a country, this is my go-to book for information. Usuall, it tells me everything I want to know.WOW THIS is an awesome atlas ! Big and heavy too , but awesome! I like looking at maps and google proves to be an excellent source of detailed maps , even of exotic and remote areas of the world but theres also nothing like opening this gorgeous book ( that almost needs its own lectern to be viewed properly , like the Bible perched atop a pulpit) and just leafing through it while your mind wanders. An excellent purchase ! Ill probably wear this book out.Beautiful! Great detail. Wonderful resource! Beautiful!!It is a tad heavy, but then again if it is going to include maps of every country in the world, then it should be.The world has changed much over the past 60 or so years. The maps I drew of Africa, as a child, bear little resemblance to the Africa of the past several decades. The USSR is gone, & now all the countries are in the National Geographic Atlas of the World. There are countries I have never even heard of!I love watching Newsroom Tokyo, it is helping me to learn about parts of the world, we in the US, know very little about.I'm slowly learning a great of what's happening on the other side of the world, & now I can find them on the map. I learned Burma is no longer, it's now called Myanmar, & I can find it in my gorgeous atlas!!Anyway, if you can handle the weight, & I agree it is substantial, maybe 9 1/2 - 10 lbs, then this atlas is just what you are looking for! With this Atlas, when I try to locate a country, or area, I can now find it, & I can actually read the font!!!Would recommend this to anyone who is interested in our ever changing world.

Title: Altered Inheritance Pdf CRISPR and the Ethics of Human Genome Editing
Author: Françoise Baylis
Published Date: 2019-09-17
Page: 240

“Altered Inheritance is a call to action. Fair, balanced, and enjoyably readable, this book provides us with insights into the greatest technical and social challenges of our day and their ethical impact on future generations.”―George Church, coauthor of Regenesis“Altered Inheritance argues that the use of gene-editing technology should require significant input from the broad public. This book is extremely timely, addresses a high interest and important topic, and comes from an influential voice in the gene-editing debate.”―Josephine Johnston, The Hastings Center“Informative and thoughtful, Altered Inheritance casts the ethically perplexing questions raised by genome editing in a clear new light. Françoise Baylis asks us to slow down and rediscover our collective moral agency instead of feeling overtaken by the momentum of science and technology.”―Peter Mills, Nuffield Council on Bioethics“Incisive and insightful, Altered Inheritance wrenches open the laboratory doors behind which science and technology struggle to set a new course for society, for humanity, and for those who are most vulnerable for extinction.”―Donna R. Walton, Founder and President, The Divas With Disabilities Project“Françoise Baylis is a fearless philosopher whose courage is matched by her talent. In this wise, lucid book, she asks exactly the right questions. What kind of world do we want to live in and how likely is gene editing to take us there?”―Carl Elliott, author of White Coat, Black Hat: Adventures on the Dark Side of Medicine“A vivid call to action…Timely and important…Commitments to justice, responsibility, accountability, and consensus-building are features of a socially just science and bioethics. Toward this end, Altered Inheritance is a foundational tool in the path ahead.”―Adam Hayden, Science Françoise Baylis is University Research Professor at Dalhousie University. She is a member of the Order of Canada and the Order of Nova Scotia, as well as a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences. Baylis was a key participant in the 2015 International Summit on Human Gene Editing and is a member of the WHO Expert Advisory Committee on Developing Global Standards for Governance and Oversight of Human Genome Editing.

A leading bioethicist offers critical insights into the scientific, ethical, and political implications of human genome editing.

Designer babies, once found only in science fiction, have become a reality. We are entering a new era of human evolution with the advent of a technology called CRISPR, which allows scientists to modify our genes. Although CRISPR shows great promise for therapeutic use, it raises thorny ethical, legal, political, and societal concerns because it can be used to make permanent changes to future generations. What if changes intended for the good turn out to have unforeseen negative effects? What if the divide between the haves and have-nots widens as a result? Who decides whether we genetically modify human beings and, if so, how?

Françoise Baylis insists that we must all have a role in determining our future as a species. The scientists who develop and use genome-editing tools should not be the only ones making decisions about future uses of the technology. Such decisions must be the fruit of a broad societal consensus. Baylis argues that it is in our collective interest to assess and steer the development and implementation of biomedical technologies. Members of the public with different interests and diverse perspectives must be among the decision makers; only in this way can we ensure that societal concerns are taken into account and that responsible decisions are made. We must be engaged and informed, think critically, and raise our voices as we create our future together.

Sharp, rousing, timely, and thought-provoking, Altered Inheritance is essential reading. The future of humanity is in our hands.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Download

ISBN: 1974706524
Title: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Pdf Part 4--Diamond Is Unbreakable, Vol. 1 (1)
Author: Hirohiko Araki
Published Date: 2019-05-07
Page: 376

Hirohiko Araki made his manga debut in 1981 with the Wild West story Busô Poker. He experimented with several genres, including mystery (Mashonen B.T.) and action-horror (Baoh), before beginning JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure in 1986. Propelled by imaginative storylines, weird imagery and individualistic artwork, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is one of the longest-running and most popular shonen manga ever. Araki’s current works include a new series set in the JoJo universe, JoJolion.

A multigenerational tale of the heroic Joestar family and their never-ending battle against evil!

The legendary Shonen Jump series is now available in deluxe hardcover editions featuring color pages! JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is a groundbreaking manga famous for its outlandish characters, wild humor and frenetic battles.

In April 1999, Jotaro Kujo travels to a town in Japan called Morioh to find a young man named Josuke Higashikata, the secret love child of his grandfather, Joseph Joestar. Upon finding him, Jotaro is surprised to learn that Josuke also possesses a Stand. After their strange meeting, the pair team up to investigate the town’s proliferation of unusual Stands!   Age Range: Teen Plus

Beautifully executed If you're a JoJo fan you've been waiting for this book for what seems like forever. My son and I were so excited to open the box from Amazon and finally hold our copies of Diamond is unbreakable. It is fabulous. The cover art inspired. I love the color palette he has chosen. The background is a shade of purple and the school uniform on one side is presented in purple and on the other side shades of evergreen. The story is fabulous. I'm not about to spoil anything in case by some sad twist of fate you haven't already read it online. But if you've enjoyed JoJo and his amazing villains you will truly love what is presented in this edition. There are epic battles, some wonderful character development, classic illustration, and a great adventure. I hope you treasure this as much as we do.A little disappointed but I'll keep buying I have been excited for these special volumes to finally reach Part 4 so that I could begin reading that story. The frist 3 parts I had read previously, but I have been collecting these special volumes and re-reading the stories because the editions were so nice looking and the author's insight into character creation and artwork in every volume was interesting. When the cover for the first volume of Part 4 was added to the Amazon listing, I noticed it was drastically different from all of the previous parts, which had been consistent in their design. To my dismay though, the image was never corrected and it seems they have gone in a different direction. The cover now seems much more like a traditional manga volume and doesn't match any of the previous parts, which I find disappointing since these are clearly collector' s volumes.Having received it in person, the book is still of the same level of quality, and they have continued the partial colorizations of some of the chapters and pages like in previous parts, which adds some nice detail. The story itself is as interesting as ever and I'm excited to see where it will go from here, now that things have gotten beyond the point I've read before. I was disappointed again however when I reached the end of the volume to find that there is no commentary at all from Araki about the characters or artwork involved in the volume. Instead, there are some very brief anecdotes about himself. This feels oddly impersonal, even though it's personal information, because it feels like Araki is maybe no longer contributing anything special to these volumes. In each volume of the previous parts Araki did special new artwork for the covers and talked about the choices he had made. Now it feels like they might possibly just be recycling existing art, which is a little sad, but I suppose the end result still works. These reissues of Part 4 seem to have lost a lot of the charming little details that initially appealed to me as a collector when buying parts 1-3, but at the end of the day, it's still JoJo however it is being packaged, and I'm enjoying it.A story of a crazy, noisy, bizarre town. Diamond is unbreakable. Still my favorite part of Jojo's bizarre adventure, and for good reason. I'm glad to see the manga is just as good as the anime.Diamond is Unbreakable takes place in Morioh, a midsized japanese town. Jotaro Kujo has come to visit for two reasons. One, to meet Josuke Higashikata, Joseph Joestar's illegitimate son. And two, to find a serial killer, and figure out how he got a stand. It only takes a few pages for this version of Jojo to show why it's the best. Josuke's stand, Shining Diamond, has the power to fix things. Araki immediately finds creative ways to use this power, creating fights that are far more creative and entertaining than anything that has come before. While the character development hasn't really gotten started yet, I can assure you that by the end of volume three, the cast in this series is going to be one of the best to come out of Japan.Looking forward to the next volume.

There's No Place Like Space Download

ISBN: 0679891153
Title: There's No Place Like Space Pdf All About Our Solar System (Cat in the Hat's Learning Library)
Author: Tish Rabe
Published Date: 1999
Page: 44

The perfect first space book for those almost-readers, There's No Place Like Space takes us on a whirlwind tour of our solar system, with a few constellations thrown in for good measure. Cat in the Hat (along with beloved Thing One and Thing Two) straps on his space suit and rhymes his way among the nine planets, presenting important facts along the way. Where else could your preschooler learn phonics and astronomy at same time? "A planet can have satellites that surround it. Uranus has lots of these objects around it" is just one example. This is a fine addition to the library of any young stargazer--few books are written with this many facts furnished in such an easy-reading manner. (Preschool to early reader) --Jill Lightner Kindergarten-Grade 3-Fans of Dr. Seuss's favorite feline will enjoy learning through rhymed couplets and cartoonlike illustrations similar to the originals. Each book combines basic facts with interesting trivia to introduce readers to topics that are sure to be of interest. From Bugs: "Here is a riddle/I learned from my mother./How's a skunk and a ladybug/like one another?/When danger is near,/it is easy to tell-/they suddenly give off/a terrible smell!" While the grammar is off, Seussian rhyme is rarely totally correct ("thunk"). In Space, readers learn, "On Venus the weather/is always the same-/hot, dry, and windy,/with no chance of rain." The familiar format and entertaining text are sure to appeal to beginning readers.Maura Bresnahan, Shawsheen School, Andover, MA Copyright 2000 Reed Business Information, Inc.

Au revoir, Pluto! In this newly revised, bestselling backlist title, beginning readers and budding astronomers are launched on a wild trip to visit the now eight planets in our solar system (per the International Astronomical Union’s 2006 decision to downgrade Pluto from a planet to a dwarf planet), along with the Cat in the Hat, Thing One, Thing Two, Dick, and Sally. It’s a reading adventure that’s out of this world!

Cute, toddler and preschooler both love it! Cute, toddler and preschooler both love it!Great gift for a young space lover! I bought this as a gift for a 5 year old. He absolutely loves it! He is just starting to learn about space and is very excited to learn more. He screamed at the top of his lungs when he opened this! I got a "great pick" from the dad. The short sentences are perfect for this little guy who is starting to read and recognizing small words. The length of the book is great because it's long enough to be a story but short enough to keep his attention to learn to read.Charming, educational book for young space enthusiasts. Book arrived in perfect condition and is newly updated to where pluto is not included in the book.It is factually accurate and perfect for my son's space-themed nursery. The familiar characters of The Cat in the Hat, Thing One and Thing Two take you on a journey though our solar system in a way that's easy and fun for young children to understand.
