Foreword INDIES Silver Award Winner

Be Careful What You Say to Your Chickens I picked this up at a local feed store while I was waiting to get my chicken feed loaded into my truck. When I checked Amazon for it, I found it available on Kindle and saved a bunch of cash buying it that way. It's a good book for novices to backyard pet chickens and would be very interesting for children, too. I used one of the techniques suggested and that was to imitate sounds that your chickens make. I imitated my rooster, who apparently was offended by what I said and he came at me. I did it again, and so did he. Moral of the story is that this book is so on point that I no longer imitate the rooster.Highly recommended! I'm a relative newby to chicken rearing, but did lots of reading before we got our first flock, two years ago. Not only has the author's unique perspective enriched my time spent with them, but I'm not quite halfway through this fun, informative book, and have already learned a number of interesting facts about my girls. Good stuff!Title is a little deceptive. I expected this book to be all about figuring out how to 'communicate' with your chickens by learning their body language and some of the basic vocalizations they make. There was only one or two pages of that. Most of this book was chicken facts, which I'll be honest, I didn't know some of the things in the book but still not exactly what I was expecting.

Volo's Guide to Monsters Free Pdf

ISBN: 0786966017
Title: Volo's Guide to Monsters Pdf
Author: Wizards RPG Team
Published Date: 2016-11-15
Page: 224
Immerse yourself in monster lore in this supplement for the world’s greatest roleplaying game

This is NOT just another Monster Manual! Volo’s Guide to Monsters provides something exciting for players and Dungeon Masters everywhere.
· A deep dive into the lore behind some of D&D’s most popular and iconic monsters
· Dozens of monsters new to the fifth edition to include in your epic adventures
· New playable races to allow you to build characters to fit nearly any type of story in your D&D game.

The esteemed loremaster Volothamp Geddarm is back and he’s written a fantastical dissertation, covering some of the most iconic monsters in the Forgotten Realms. Unfortunately, the Sage of Shadowdale himself, Elminster, doesn’t believe Volo gets some of the important details quite right. Don’t miss out as Volo and Elminster square off (academically speaking of course) to illuminate the uninitiated on creatures both common and obscure. Uncover the machinations of the mysterious Kraken Society, what is the origin of the bizarre froghemoth, or how to avoid participating in the ghastly reproductive cycle of the grotesque vargouille.  Dungeon Masters and players will get some much-needed guidance as you plan your next venture, traipsing about some dusty old ruin in search of treasure, lore, and let’s not forget ... dangerous creatures whose horns, claws, fangs, heads, or even hides might comfortably adorn the walls of your trophy room. If you survive.

Research has never been so dangerous!

Xanthar, clearly doesn’t know everything... Arrived today in absolutely perfect condition, I’ve noticed a few negative reviews here and there and think it’s less of a knock on Wizard’s of the Coast & Amazon, and more of a case of in unluck of the draw. For the book itself, content wise, I love the new races even if they are a little on the basic side design wise (I felt they could’ve spaced them out better and made each new race page closer to players handguude layout where you have a big gorgeous illustration followed by their name in big print spaced out away from the next races, instead it reads with slightly bigger print, illustrations sometimes on the next page, all sort of run into one another. In short, it’s somewhere between a strait up list and what the player handbook does with the core races. Maybe that’s a minor complaint but that did bother me, enough to write this blurb.)Otherwise, still very happy with this book and happy to have it in my collection.Great book with a good information on Monster Races. The book is laid out in 3 section with the first section giving the DM insight into the a number of different monster races such as Beholders, Giants, Gnolls, Goblin races, Mind Flayers and Yuan-Ti. The next section gives several new player races such as Aasimar, Goliath, Lizardfolk, Tabaxi and my new favorite the Kenku. While the last section has stats for a bunch of new monsters related to the races detailed in the front of the book and some new NPC types. As with all Wizard of the Coast books the art work is great. I really like the Monster Lore section, I used the Goblinoid background to expand the Hobgoblin Empire and Yuan-Ti's that I was using already using in my campaign. I also like some of the insights like monster tactics. This is a great book for your D&D library and I hope future editions will expand out some of the other races that couldn't make this edition.

ISBN: 006291183X
Title: The Plant Paradox Family Cookbook Pdf 80 One-Pot Recipes to Nourish Your Family Using Your Instant Pot, Slow Cooker, or Sheet Pan
Author: Dr. Steven R. Gundry, M.D.
Published Date: 2019-11-19
Page: 416

Steven R. Gundry, MD, is the director of the International Heart and Lung Institute in Palm Springs, California, and the founder and director of the Center for Restorative Medicine in Palm Springs and Santa Barbara. After a distinguished surgical career as a professor and chairman of cardiothoracic surgery at Loma Linda University, Dr. Gundry changed his focus to curing modern diseases via dietary changes. He is the bestselling author of The Longevity Paradox, The Plant Paradox, The Plant Paradox Cookbook, The Plant Paradox Quick and Easy, and Dr. Gundry’s Diet Evolution, and has written more than three hundred articles published in peer-reviewed journals on using diet and supplements to eliminate heart disease, diabetes, autoimmune disease, and multiple other diseases. Dr. Gundry lives with his wife, Penny, and their dogs in Palm Springs and Montecito, California.

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Plant Paradox comes a guide to one-pot cooking for the whole family, with a special focus how to make the Plant Paradox program kid-friendly.

Since the publication of The Plant Paradox in 2017, hundreds of thousands of people have embraced Dr. Gundry’s nutritional protocol—and experienced life-changing results. But most of Dr. Gundry’s readers aren’t cooking for themselves alone. “How can I extend this way of eating to my entire family? And is it safe for my kids?” are the questions he is most often asked.

In The Plant Paradox Family Cookbook, Dr. Gundry reassures parents as he sets the record straight, providing an overview of children’s nutritional needs and explaining how we can help our kids thrive on the Plant Paradox program—a diet low in lectins. Dr. Gundry offers shocking evidence of how the Plant Paradox program is not only “safe” for kids, but also the best possible way to set them up for a lifetime of health and responsible eating.

As research continues to bear out, a healthy microbiome—or “gut”—is the cornerstone of human health. The foods we eat at the beginning of our lives have a long-term impact on the makeup of our microbiome. Lectin-containing foods—such as grains, legumes, certain fruits and vegetables, and conventional dairy—damage it by creating holes in the gut wall and triggering the kind of systemic inflammation that lays the groundwork for disease. And yet, many of the foods we are routinely told to feed our children—think milk, whole grain bread, peanut butter—have an incredibly high lectin content.

The Plant Paradox Family Cookbook includes more than 80 recipes that make cooking for a family a breeze. And since pressure cooking is the best and easiest way to reduce lectin content in foods like grains and beans, the majority of the quick and easy recipes are Instant-Pot friendly. From weeknight dinners to make-ahead breakfasts to snacks and even lunchbox-ready meals, The Plant Paradox Family Cookbook will help the whole family experience the incredible benefits of the Plant Paradox program.

Title: The Velvet Rage Pdf Overcoming the Pain of Growing Up Gay in a Straight Man's World, Second Edition
Author: Alan Downs
Published Date: 2012-06-05
Page: 272

Philadelphia Gay News bestseller, 5/11/12 "A groundbreaking examination of the psychology of homosexuality, why it leads to shame over one's identity, and how to overcome it.... This book has remarkable staying power."Artvoice, 11/26/15 "The clearest, most succinct delineation of the origins and consequences of internalized homophobia, and how to address them.""Those familiar with gay men will find a good deal of honest reporting here. Without being maudlin, Downs, himself a gay man, writes movingly."―Library Journal"Peppered with deeply personal reflections... There's no doubt that the men profiled in this sober call for "owning the injury" of growing up gay in a straight world were helped by their counseling, or that there are certainly some readers who will find their own lives reflected in that healing."―Q Syndicate"[An] excellent new book...The Velvet Rage is a chronicle of furtive pathos, anger, compensatory fabulousness, despair, sex addiction, and flickerings of hope as its wounded actors make their way by uncertain stages toward a light of authenticity and self-acceptance their culture does not want them to find or even see. In its pages, through anecdotal moments and analytical passages, one is constantly catching glints of people one has known, behaviors one has seen and heard firsthand and often been baffled and hurt by."―San Francisco Bay Guardian"Dr. Alan Downs has some words of wisdom....Although unnerving at first, readers might feel kinship with the case study subjects and ultimately, become empowered by the lessons learned and by the self-realizations experienced."―New City Chicago"While we can all hope that the collective experience will change in time, Downs' perspective is still all too relevant."―AOL's Book Maven

A groundbreaking examination of the psychology of homosexuality, why it leads to shame over one's identity, and how to overcome it

In The Velvet Rage, psychologist Alan Downs draws on his own struggle with shame and anger, contemporary research, and stories from his patients to passionately describe the stages of a gay man's journey out of shame and offers practical and inspired strategies to stop the cycle of avoidance and self-defeating behavior. The Velvet Rage is an empowering book that has already changed the public discourse on gay culture and helped shape the identity of an entire generation of gay men.

The “Gay Man” profile is much more diverse than the author suggests I’m still reading this book, so perhaps I’m being unfair in writing this prematurely. Some of the author’s insights may be accurate and generally helpful. However, he writes in such absolute terms about what the “gay man” experience is like that I find it gets in the way of his credibility. As another reviewer commented, he writes about the successful, urban, educated, sophisticated man whose life is outwardly “fabulous,” summering in Key West or Fire Island or Provincetown. There is so little nuance about the diversity that truly exists within the demographic group labeled “gay men.”For example, the picture he paints suggests that the average gay man in America is wealthier and has more disposable income than his straight brothers. Data indicate otherwise. Ironically this is likely so because of the higher rates of depression and other socially-linked obstacles that gay men often face.So ... I wish he had an editor who helped add a little nuance and moderation to the stereotyped picture he paints.

Edison Free Pdf

ISBN: B07VLBRWY8
Title: Edison Pdf

From Pulitzer Prize-winning author Edmund Morris comes a revelatory new biography of Thomas Alva Edison, the most prolific genius in American history.

Although Thomas Alva Edison was the most famous American of his time, and remains an international name today, he is mostly remembered only for the gift of universal electric light. His invention of the first practical incandescent lamp 140 years ago so dazzled the world - already reeling from his invention of the phonograph and dozens of other revolutionary devices - that it cast a shadow over his later achievements. In all, this near-deaf genius ("I haven't heard a bird sing since I was 12 years old") patented 1,093 inventions, not including others, such as the X-ray fluoroscope, that he left unlicensed for the benefit of medicine.

One of the achievements of this staggering new biography, the first major life of Edison in more than 20 years, is that it portrays the unknown Edison - the philosopher, the futurist, the chemist, the botanist, the wartime defense adviser, the founder of nearly 250 companies - as fully as it deconstructs the Edison of mythological memory. Edmund Morris, winner of the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award, brings to the task all the interpretive acuity and literary elegance that distinguished his previous biographies of Theodore Roosevelt, Ronald Reagan, and Ludwig van Beethoven. A trained musician, Morris is especially well equipped to recount Edison's 50-year obsession with recording technology and his pioneering advances in the synchronization of movies and sound. Morris sweeps aside conspiratorial theories positing an enmity between Edison and Nikola Tesla and presents proof of their mutually admiring, if wary, relationship.

Enlightened by seven years of research among the five million pages of original documents preserved in Edison's huge laboratory at West Orange, New Jersey, and privileged access to family papers still held in trust, Morris is also able to bring his subject to life - the adored yet autocratic and often neglectful husband of two wives and father of six children. If the great man who emerges from it is less a sentimental hero than an overwhelming force of nature, driven onward by compulsive creativity, then Edison is at last getting his biographical due.

A Brilliant Introduction to an American Original and His World Edmund Morris is best known as the author of an acclaimed triptych on Theodore Roosevelt. He’s one of the best of the notable group of popular historians who rose in the 1970s and 1980s, continuing to the present day. As academe retreats into insularity, historians such as Morris and David McCullough have brought history and biography to life for millions of Americans.Morris’s decision to engage the life and legacy of Thomas Alva Edison is inspired. His deep study of Theodore Roosevelt positioned him well both to comprehend the significance of Edison and do the granular work to bring an increasingly distant figure to life.As with TR, Edison’s life and work is singular and of a piece with his own time. Morris also demonstrates how strikingly relevant many aspects of their era is to our own. The transformational changes in technology, culture, and politics now underway are no more profound than those of a century ago. One could argue that the people of that time faced greater challenges. His debut biography, 'The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt,' is memorable for the match of Roosevelt’s larger-than-life early years with Morris’s literary sensibility. His subsequent works have shown greater and lesser success in his attempts to create, in Roosevelt’s words, history as literature.Morris struggled with the limitations of the biographical genre in his authorized biography of President Reagan, 'Dutch.' It’s a commonplace that the decisions of the non-fiction writer, adhering closely to the facts, may nonetheless depart from ultimate understanding or truth. Unable to get hold of Reagan as a political and cultural figure, Morris inserted himself as a fictional narrator, commenting on real-life events. The result was disappointing if not tragic; he was the late president’s authorized biographer, accorded rare access to the administration and its papers. In 'Edison,' Morris faced the task of introducing the life and times of a figure whose accomplishments literally transformed the reality of life for his nation and the entire planet. The inventor emerges as not an entirely appealing personality. His legendary capacity for concentration and extended work was accompanied by strained personal and professional relationships. Edison was a great inventor by any reckoning. He was also remote and callous.Morris reverses the chronology of Edison’s life. He opens with his subject’s death. This enables him to establish Edison’s significance and recognition by his contemporaries. Morris then moves backwards, dividing the life of the “Wizard of Menlo Park” by the subjects of his work. It’s as if Edison is a great tree that Morris prunes and finally cuts to its core, its roots. The “rosebud” moment, in Morris’s rendering, is Edison’s childhood loss of hearing. This is at once poignant—Edison’s inventions including breakthroughs in the transmission and recording of sound—and explanatory of the separation that was a foundation of his professional achievements and personal limitations.'Edison' is meticulously researched and beautifully written. The book itself is well designed and formatted, with apt illustrations. It will likely not be regarded as highly as Morris’s’ work on Roosevelt. That may be an unapproachable standard. Nonetheless, it's a brilliant introduction to an American original and his world.A True Inspiration A couple of times every century, out of the countless human beings that inhabit the Earth, a few rise to the level of genius. These rare individuals embody a different categorization, difficult to fathom, but nonetheless single-handedly bend the trajectory of the human race and project it forward. Thomas Edison is inarguably one such example.Edmund Morris delivers another phenomenal biography. Edison's story is wonderfully written and even after 600+ pages, I wanted to learn more. Thomas Edison was a dynamo of energy, working 18-20 hour days for most of his life. His unbelievable curiosity matched with his self-confidence- his unwillingness to accept what he read and instead test it for himself- led to 1,093 patents in his life. He averaged an invention every 11 days for 40 years! His persistence and tenacity are inspiring- he tried over 6000 materials in his search for the ideal light filament, and 9000 experiments to find the right pair of metals for his storage battery. Everybody knows about Edison and the light bulb, but I was unaware of how many other historic inventions he was involved in. I won't list them here but the book is worth the read to find out.Thomas Edison was born to invent and that's what he did. He is a concrete example of living one's life to the fullest and demonstrates what is possible when the human mind is fully activated. It is terrific that one of today's great biographers finally chose him as their subject. One of Edison's close associates put it best: "The one great impression of my years in Menlo Park was how impenetrable the veil of the future seems to be when new problems are to be solved, and how simple the result often is when the darkness of ignorance is lighted by the genius of one man."I do have one minor qualm. The book is written in opposite chronological order, which leads to several footnotes referencing later sections that explain events that led to the current discussion. This is somewhat confusing, I prefer the standard method where events build on one another. But given the immense gift that Morris has provided, this sort of complaint is admittedly very trivial.Lastly, I just wikipedia'ed Edmund Morris and learned the unfortunate news that he passed away in May of this year. RIP. He left us all with yet another irreplaceable biography and he will always be appreciated for his lucid and exciting stories detailing the lives of historical figures. Highly highly recommend.

Sam Houston and the Alamo Avengers Pdf

ISBN: B07QV32T9K
Title: Sam Houston and the Alamo Avengers Pdf The Texas Victory That Changed American History

The heart-stopping story of the fight for Texas by The New York Times best-selling author of George Washington's Secret Six and Thomas Jefferson and the Tripoli Pirates.

In his now-trademark style, Brian Kilmeade brings alive one of the most pivotal moments in American history, this time telling the heart-stopping story of America's fight for Texas. While the story of the Alamo is familiar to most, few remember how Sam Houston led Texians after a crushing loss to a shocking victory that secured their freedom and paved the way for America's growth. In March 1836, the Mexican army led by General Santa Anna massacred more than 200 Texians who had been trapped in a tiny adobe mission in San Antonio for 13 days. American legends Jim Bowie and Davey Crockett died there, along with other Americans who had moved to Texas looking for a fresh start. The defeat galvanized the surviving Texians. Under General Sam Houston, a maverick with a rocky past, the tiny army of settlers rallied - only to retreat time and time again. Having learned from the bloody battles that characterized his past, Houston knew it was poor strategy to aggressively retaliate. He held off until just one month after the massacre, when he and his army of underdog Texians soundly defeated Santa Anna's troops in under 18 minutes at the Battle of San Jacinto, and in doing so won the independence for which so many had died.

Sam Houston and the Alamo Avengers recaptures this pivotal war that changed America forever, and sheds light on the tightrope all war heroes walk between courage and calculation. Thanks to Kilmeade's storytelling, a new generation of listeners will remember the Alamo - and recognize the lesser-known heroes who snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

Succinct and to the point. The book tells it. And another piece of information for the screamers and the apologists and Elizabeth Warren and the America haters… There were Mexicans fighting on the side of Texas against Santa Anna. So this wasn’t just a racist thing or a colonial thing. This was about liberty. If you don’t believe me take a trip out of your mothers basement and go visit the Alamo and look at the name of the people died there
